![]() The Swag literally borders the Great Smokies National Park, which meant at night we could stand on The Swag property and look past the fence into the forest to see this incredibly rare natural occurrence. The week we stayed Esther was the expert, and we took a fantastic wildflower hike with her one morning and then twice we went out to see fireflies at night and even got to see the super rare Blue Ghost firefly and also got to see “syncs” which is a different species of fireflies that sync their flashing together…it was mesmerizing, despite the fact it was cold and not as much of a “show” as usual. The Swags Expert in Residence program is an incredible added value. They even have my favorite brand of bathrobes, of which I have one at home…they are the absolute best…Monarch is the name, perhaps? 3. If I was trapped in our room for 3 days and didn’t leave that would be no problem, there was so much value, including a beautiful front porch with a swing. Taking a shower, outside, while having a roaring fire going, cool mountain breezes completely surrounded by trees and hearing the birds sing…heaven. The best part was the private outdoor porch with a fireplace and outdoor shower and rocking chairs. Our bedroom also had a bathroom with a large bathtub, steam shower, and private sauna. We stayed in Balsam and it was the most unique and special room we’ve ever stayed in (and we’ve traveled very extensively to lots of 5 star hotels.) Our cabin had a sitting room with a sleeper sofa, full bathroom and fireplace. Not having to think about when we are eating, where we are eating, what to expect with the food (outstanding) and the service (top notch) was such ablessing. The only additional costs for food are wine pairings at dinner or drinks for their bar. In addition, there are sodas in the room fridge and other snacks like trail mix and cookies in the afternoon. The all inclusive model/the food means you enjoy fabulous breakfast and dinner each day in a magical setting (overlooking the mountains on an open air porch by a fire!) For lunch you are able to choose what food you’d like and then take it with you, which we did for our hike. Five things set The Swag apart from other resorts and hotels: 1. I hope it helps someone make up their mind! The Swag not only lived up to the hype, it surpassed our highest expectations. This is the longest review I have ever written.
